Congratulations to Arin Sarkissian for winning the 2016 Tom Miller Award in the Youth Category!
Arin was very deserving of the Tom Miller award because of his enthusiasm, energy, passion for helping others, and his altruism. His friends and teachers describe him as diligent, determined, enthusiastic, infectiously positive, and light-hearted. He has a deep curiosity to learn, a bursting passion to explore all aspects of academics, a love of helping people, and humility. Eventually, he wants to become medical doctor and to use music to help heal his patients. Last year, Arin joined TASSEL club because he wanted to make an impact by teaching Cambodian children the English language through video chat. This year, that passion to help people is again evident with Arin volunteering at the Glendale Free Clinic. Arin spends his Tuesday evenings helping patients who do not have insurance but have serious medical conditions such as diabetes and hypertension get medical attention and treatment. Arin is most passionate about his music. Since joining the Wind Ensemble and Marching Band at CVHS, Arin has been the principal flutist, section leader, and currently the president of the Marching Band. He is also the president of the Chemistry Club and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. And yet, regardless of how little sleep he receives the night before or how stressed he really is on the inside, his contagious smile always seems to rub off and he always serves as an optimistic role model to all his fellow students.
